Peter K. Ortale was a two-time high school All-American at Penn Charter. As captain, Peter led us to the 1983 State Championship. He went on to become a two-time All-ACC midfielder at Duke and captained the Blue Devils in 1987, earning three MVP awards. Following graduation, Peter traveled to Australia where he continued to play lacrosse and after returning to the U.S., he played on the Philadelphia Wings. Even while working as a trader in New York City, Peter continued to play lacrosse with NYAC. Peter’s passion for lacrosse was only a part of his passion for life. Peter lost his life in the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center.
Family and friends established the Peter K. Ortale Scholarship Fund to honor Peter’s life and accomplishments. The Scholarship at Penn Charter and at Duke University provide tuition assistance to a student who, like Peter, exhibits the qualities of a scholar-athlete and demonstrates a high level of motivation, self-reliance, and leadership, in the classroom and on the playing field.
